FAFN: Issues Facing Women As They Plan for Retirement

Speaker(s)
Tacy Paul Roby Wholesale Marketing Manager, Calvert
Janet Bodnar Deputy Editor of Kiplinger's Magazine

Description
This panel will focus on two aspects of women and retirement. One of the key aspects of preparing women to finance their retirement is overcoming barriers to the advancement of women in the workplace. Simply put, higher paid women can afford to save more for retirement. A recent study shows that the wage gap between men and women narrows at companies where women have senior management positions. This panel will examine how the SRI research and advocacy process can help to advance women in the workplace. By advocating for more diverse participants in the corporate boardroom, for example, SRI promotes senior management opportunities for women, and this, in turn, helps female line managers. This panel will also focus on helping women address the financial issues that arise when planning for retirement as well as addressing the needs to educate children on the importance of investing. The book, Money Smart Women, shows that women can address such issues by "saving early and often."
