In today’s age of globalization, there is a lot of interaction between non-governmental organizations and multinational corporations.  The SRI industry works with many for-profit companies that often share similar goals with NGOs, such as Oxfam America.   In this podcast, Ray Offenheiser, President of Oxfam America, and Steve Schueth, President of First Affirmative Financial Network, discuss the best way to coordinate efforts given this growing number of interested parties with similar objectives.  They go on to discuss strategies Oxfam is working on to mitigate the impacts of climate change on the world’s poor, who although have contributed very little to climate change will most likely suffer the worst of the consequences.  Mr. Offenheiser shares some innovative options for financing adaption to this global challenge by allowing the developing world to better manage the risk due to climatic change through programs such as a partnership with Swiss Rei to develop a weather indexed insurance product for small farmers in Ethiopia.  Mr. Offenheiser and Mark Way, who heads Swiss Re’s sustainable development activities in the Americas, will continue this discussion at the SRI in the Rockies conference on the 26th of October.   Tune in to learn more about these exciting possibilities in this highly informative discussion.
