I’ve been around the block on this whole sustainable investing thing, right? After all… my firm has been managing the communications for SRI in the Rockies for over a decade. I’ve been to a few of the events (when I wasn’t holding down the fort or tending a toddler), and have been deeply immersed in the last 11 events, even if sometimes in absentia.
Heck, I’m old school sustainability. I grew up knowing recycling is not optional, walking is better than driving, and homemade zucchini bread should never be traded for a Twinkie because the former stood for loving self-sufficiency and the latter is just gross.
So, it rather surprised me that, at a wizened 40 years of age, I could be deeply impressed, moved, and informed by the tales, anecdotes, thoughts, and advice of these living SRI legends. Now, most of the folks we interviewed for the “Pioneers of SRI in the Rockies” series would demur at the moniker of “legend”; but, let’s face it—when you are chatting with the leadership from Calvert, KLD, Parnassus, First Affirmative Financial Network and other such luminaries, it’s hard to think of a better word.
Even 20—or 30—years after launching an industry, these men and women have great ideas and grounded perspectives. When asked, “What’s next?” Wayne Silby of Calvert enthusiastically replies, “Me? I’m going to China!” By contrast, Carsten Henningsten observes that “what’s next” for SRI in the Rockies is likely to be a good deal of change.
Each of these unique perspectives is brought to life in the new SRI in the Rockies 20th Anniversary video series. Check out our new YouTube channel to see all of the videos. You’ll learn something, enjoy a laugh or two, and get inspired for the on-going work of socially responsible investing.
